CHICOPEE James E. Wesloski, 91, of Chicopee, died at home surrounded by his family on January 1, 2019. He was born in Holyoke on December 2, 1927, to the late Edward and Agnes (Friel) Wesloski. James graduated from St. Jerome High School in Holyoke in 1945.

There, he met the love of his life and wife of 71 years, Anna Mae (Ryan). As a young man, James worked for Worthington Pump and Machinery Corporation of Holyoke and starred in basketball and baseball. He served in the United States Navy after graduating from high school and later joined the South Hadley Police Department.

He retired a police sergeant in 1989 after 32 years on the force. In retirement, he was an avid and successful golfer, playing frequently through the 2018 season and participating in the Pete Reed Golf League and many police leagues. A snowbird, he traveled widely, visiting Florida, California, Hawaii, and Ireland.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was inducted into the Holyoke Catholic Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sports games and dance recitals, as well as spending mornings at his local breakfast restaurant with friends discussing politics and sports. James is survived by his wife Anna Mae, his children James and wife Helen, Michael, Mary and husband Steven, and Beth and husband Michael, his brother John and wife Rosemary, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers Edward and Daniel, daughter-in-law Caron, and granddaughter Kimberly. The funeral will be held Monday, January 7th at 10:45 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. at Saint Patrick Church, 30 Main Street, South Hadley. Burial will follow at Saint Jerome Cemetery in Holyoke.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, January 6th from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the South Hadley Recreation Department, 116 Main St. # 103, South Hadley MA 01075.
