Obituary for James Edwin Dean TYE, TEXAS: James Edwin Dean, 89, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2018 at the Hendricks Hospice Care facility in Abilene, Texas. He was born in DeKalb, Texas on August 30, 1929, the eldest of 4 children to Noble and Audrey Dean. He grew up helping on his family farm and then left to attend Hardin-Simmons University where he met the love of his life, Paula Jean (Easter) Dean.

They began their 58 years of married life on August 29, 1948. Three children soon joined their family, Brooks Edwin, Lou Ann and Sharla Jean. James spent his career in education serving as a teacher, coach, and administrator.

He loved Jesus and God’s Word and showed that love through his faithful service to Tye Baptist Church as a deacon and the men’s Sunday School teacher. James also enjoyed being with people- whether it was playing golf, drinking coffee at Nancy’s Place or sitting out in his front yard “just visiting”. His pride and joy was his family, and he never missed an opportunity to talk about his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids to anyone who would listen.

James was preceded in death by sister, Patsy Ruth; his parents; his wife; his son; a granddaughter, Tammy Hill; and brother, Joe Dean. Survivors include brother, David Dean and wife Peggy of Flagstaff, AZ; sister, Betty Coker and husband Obie of Merkel; sister-in-law, Clara Dean of Andrews; two daughters, Lou Ann Brown and husband Art of Ovalo, and Sharla Holloway and husband Rusty of Merkel; 7 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 2 from 5-7pm at Starbuck Funeral Home in Merkel, Texas.

Services will be held Monday, September 3 at 10:00am at Tye Baptist Church, the Reverend Jim Ritter officiating. Burial will be in the Tye Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.
