Obituary for James Fields James Andrew Fields Jr. of Gary, IN passed away May 24, 2018 at his home in Spring, TX. James was born August 12, 1947 in Proctor, Arkansas to the late James A. Fields and Maybelle (Brooks) Fields. Two of his brothers Bill Ervin and Scott Alan Fields Sr. preceded him in death.

He was known to most as Junior or JR. He came to Gary at an early age. James received his education in Gary IN.

, graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1965. JR was a member of several Velt’65 reunion committees before he relocated to Spring TX. During his high school days he worked in the family owned business, Field’s Car Wash.

On July 5, 1966, JR was inducted into the U.S. Army where he honorably served in Viet Nam from September 24 1968 until July 1, 1969. Sergeant Fields was wounded in service and he was awarded the Purple Heart for military operations against a hostile force. JR was a trained Green Beret and served with the 5th Army Special Forces Group (Airborne), JR was very proud of his military service.

JR worked at US Steel Gary Works Sheet and Tin Mill for over 30 years and retired. He also worked for the Gary Fire Department retiring after 20 years in addition to serving as a Deputy Sheriff (Lake County, IN). In addition to an active and fulfilling life JR enjoyed playing golf whenever the opportunity presented itself .

He leaves to cherish in memory his loving wife Virginia Seawood of Spring TX, one son Rodney (Lisa)Brooks of Katy, TX, one brother, Suloman Dauda of Zimbabwe, Africa, two sisters ,Norma “Sis” Fields of Houston TX and Linda Fields of Gary IN, three granddaughters Jessica Coffee Milwaukee WI, Kala Brooks-Birden (Justin) of Katy, TX and Ashlyn Brooks of Katy TX two great-grandchildren, one aunt Hattie May Weary of Bogalusa, La, 14 nieces and nephews several great-nieces and nephews. Special cousin Lamont Rusan of St. Louis and special friend Michael Ruffin of Gary. U.S. Special Forces brothers; Larry V. Hicks Jr of Warren, WI, Marcus Howard of Flint, MI, and Michael Byard of Lawrenceville, NJ and faithful service dog Gabby and a host of relatives and friends.
