Joseph Joaquin Herrera, Jr. passed away April 29, 2018 at the St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart, IN after an extended illness. He was born June 25, 1938 to Joseph J. Herrera, Sr. and Amelia (Montoya) Herrera in Gary, IN. He is survived by his sons Joseph J. Herrera, III, Douglas B. Herrera; four grandchildren, Amber, Kimberly, Noah, and Nate; great-grandchildren, Aaron, and Anthony; lifelong friends, Edna O’Neal and Kathy Long; loving sister, Kit (Ron) Thews; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph J. Herrera, Sr. and Amelia (Montoya) Herrera; two sisters, Alice Munrath and Amparo Jaso; and brother, Rudolph Herrera. Joseph proudly served his country in the United Air Force as an Aircraft Electrical Repairman from June 1960 to June 1964 upon which he was Honorably Discharged. He retired from US Steel in Gary, IN after many years of service.

He will be remembered as a beloved son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
