James H. “Jim” McCue June 05, 1923 – January 28, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries James Harry ‘Jim’ McCue, 95, of South Hutchinson, died January 28, 2019, at Mennonite Friendship Communities. He was born June 5, 1923, in Fairfield, NE, the son of Bernard L. and Helen F. (Caldwell) McCue. Jim graduated from high school in Grand Island, NE, in 1941 and served in the United States Army from April, 1943, until he was honorably discharged in December, 1945.

Jim worked in the family trucking business, McCue Transfer, Inc., for many years until it sold in 1969. He then worked for Grede Foundries from 1973 to 1984 and then delivered ambulances for Wheeled Coach for 15 years until his retirement in 2000. Jim was a member and past-president of Hutchinson Bowling Association and was inducted into the Hutchinson Men’s Bowling Hall of Fame.

He was past-president of Hutchinson Trucking Association, lifetime member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #982, and lifetime member of American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68. On April 9, 1946, Jim married Viola N. Casey in Hutchinson. He is survived by: his wife, Viola, of 72 years; son, Terry McCue (Lynda) of Hutchinson; daughters, Karen Herdt of Hutchinson and Pamela Wright (William) of Springfield, TN; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; brothers, Bob McCue of Hutchinson, Mike ‘Jerry’ McCue (Connie) of McPherson; sister, Janet Smith (Barry) of Portland, OR; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jim was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Jack, Bill, Larry; sisters, Patricia Belveal and Colleen Gearhart; granddaughter, Stephanie Joy McCue; and son-in-law, Gary Herdt. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2019, at Elliott Chapel. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, with military honors conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Reno County Veterans’ Memorial, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
