James was a graduate of St. Louis University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce. He was the CEO of Boyd’s Clothing as well as a Business Executive with Midland Supply and Edison Pipe and Tubing.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mona M. Murphy, nee Halloran; his son, James J. Murphy, III; his parents, James J. and Mary, nee Williams, Murphy, Jr.; and his sisters, Peggy Murphy and Celeste Sonnenburg. James is survived by his children, Mona (Mike) Gunn of St. Louis, MO, Michael (Kristin) Murphy of O’Fallon, IL, and Patrick Murphy of Brentwood, MO; his daughter-in-law, Sally Murphy of Belleville, IL; his grandchildren, Jimmy, Jeffrey, Mary, Magdalyn and Patrick Murphy, and Ann Gunn; and his sister, Jeanne Murphy. Memorials can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Belleville, IL. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018 with Fr. Gerard Garrigan officiating.

Interment at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
