Funeral service for James Larry Terry, age 70, of Decatur, will be Thursday, November 8, 2018, 2:00 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brian McLaughlin officiating. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to service.

Interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Mr. Terry, who died Saturday, November 3, 2018, at Huntsville Hospital, was born July 22, 1948, in Cullman, AL, to James Burkett Terry and Maggie Marcella (Kellum) Terry. He was preceded in death by his father, and his stepfather, Leldon Shelton.

Sgt. Terry was a decorated Green Beret (E5) veteran of the U. S. Army, having served in Vietnam. Among his many awards and honors were three Purple Hearts and three bronze stars (valor and heroism).

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved animals, and had a great knowledge and appreciation of Native American history. Mr. Terry was a true family man who loved and cared for each and every one. He is survived by one daughter, Brandi Terry Shankle (Sidney) of Trinity; his mother, Marcella Shelton of Decatur; one brother, Steven Ethan Shelton (Diane) of Hartselle; one sister, Kathy Shelton Westbrook of Decatur; granddaughter, Sydney Olivia Shankle of Trinity; one nephew, Casey Jordan Westbrook (Caitlyn); three nieces, Nicole Shelton Belcher (Jeff), Jennifer Shelton Letz (Patrick), and Haley Westbrook Stuart (Seth); and one great-nephew and two great-nieces.

Pallbearers, along with full military honors and escorts, will be provided by American Legion Post 15, American Legion Riders of Post 15, and the Patriot Guard Riders.
