James Leroy Shirley passed away on Tuesday, October 9, in Marlow. He was born on March 22, 1933 in Earlsboro, Oklahoma, to Cleveland and Minnie Shirley. Graveside services are scheduled for Friday, October 12, at 11:00 A.M. at Rosedale Cemetery in Ada, Oklahoma.

Rev. Eddie Jackson will be officiating the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitt Funeral Home.

James was a graduate of Barber College and told how he cut hair for military men. He also told sometimes he wouldn’t charge for their haircuts in respect of the military. James was a tipper for several oilfield tool companies and did work for himself for many years.

He played the mandolin in church and other stringed instruments. He also enjoyed vegetable gardening. James was preceded in death by his wife, Teresa Shirley; son, Steve Shirley; three brothers; and three sisters.

He is survived by his daughter, Holly Balthrop; six grandchildren, several great grandchildren; and one sister, LaVerne Neabitt. Online condolences can be made to the family at www. whittfh.com.
