Gladys Fae Casteel Loflin , May 01, 1943 — November 15, 2018

Gladys F. Loflin, 75, died November 15, 2018 at her home in Apache OK with her children and friends at her side. She was born May 1, 1943 to Leland Cecil Casteel and Lola Fae Bang in Galveston, Texas. She met and married Charles L. Burns in Fresno, California and had 3 children (Douglas Wayne Burns, now deceased, Charles Lee Burns, Jr. and Kim Cherie Burns, now Creasey.

After moving to Oklahoma in 1972, she joined 4 other women at the Oklahoma City police academy, becoming one of the first 5 full-fledged women police officers in Oklahoma. She rose to the rank of Lieutenant before retiring in 1994. Later she married Forrest L. Loflin and raised a second family in Apache, OK, having twin daughters (Cassi Jo Loflin, now Roberts, and Bobbi Jo Loflin) at the age of 50.

During retirement she raised her girls and served in the community. After the death of Forrest in May 2002, she ranched cattle until 2008. Her service in the Apache 1st United Methodist Church was extensive, serving as Sunday School teacher, Children’s Choir Director, President of the United Methodist Women, and various church committees and programs.

In 2012, she was Apache’s Woman of the Year. In Apache she served with the Chamber of Commerce, the Museum Board of Directors, the Library Board of Directors, the PTA, the Rattlesnake Association and Rattlesnake Festival, and she would volunteer at the elementary school. She also participated with Apache’s Red Hat Society and volunteered at the Oklahoma Blood Institute.

Even though she was retired from the Oklahoma City Police Department, she continued to serve the police community. She served as a reserve officer for the city of Apache. She was also active with the Retired Police Officer’s Association, Fraternal Order of Police, and the Oklahoma Women Law Enforcement.

She is survived by her sister, Kathy Potts; her children, Charles L. Burns, Jr., Kim C. Creasey, Cassi Jo Roberts, and Bobbi Jo Loflin; 6 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Douglas W. Burns; her husband Forrest L. Loflin; and 5 siblings. Family visitation is scheduled for Sunday, November 18, 2-5P.M. at Crews Funeral Home in Apache.

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, November 19, at 10AM at the Apache 1st United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Crews Funeral Home. Online condolences to the family can be made at www.
