PITTSBURG – James “Jim” E. Merrow, 60, passed away on Monday, November 5, 2018 at Herrin Hospital. On November 2, 1958 he was born to Earl Franklin and Betty Lou (Dupree) Merrow in Marion. They preceded him in death.

Jim worked for Peabody Energy at Wildcat Underground. He was a founding member of the Pittsburg Volunteer Fire Department where he currently served as Fire Chief. He has played a vital role in the fire department for over 40 years.

He is survived by his son, Ryan Merrow of Creal Springs and girlfriend, Katie Baltzell of Pittsburg; daughter, Hillary Davis and husband Jesse of Pittsburg; and grandchild, Taylor Davis of Pittsburg. Other survivors include the Fowler Family (Cousins).

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin with Brett Beasley officiating. A firefighter walk through will be held before the service. Burial will follow in Oddfellows Cemetery in Marion.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8pm on Friday, November 9, 2018 at the funeral home. Memorials are the preferred form of remembrance and can be made to the Pittsburg Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
