OBITUARY James Mullaney October 25, 1927 – October 26, 2018 James F. Mullaney, 91 Corporation counsel James F. Mullaney, 91, passed away peacefully on Oct. 26, 2018, in Staten Island Hospital, surrounded by his beloved family. James was born on Staten Island to Anna (Egan) and Michael Mullaney.
James leaves behind his devoted sister, Peggy Ferris. He was predeceased by his brother, Michael, and sisters, Ann Rice, Kathleen Perkowski, and Loretta Kirk. He lived in Ward Hill, Staten Island.
James graduated from Saint Peter’s High School. Following his graduation from Saint Peter’s, James enlisted in the United States Navy in 1945 and served as a “Seaman First Class” aboard the USS Tarawa Aircraft Carrier, Ordnance Division. James was honorably discharged from the service.
After serving his country, James attended and graduated from Saint Peter’s College, Jersey City, N.J., in 1950. James then went on to attend and graduate from Saint John’s University Law School in 1953. He became a member of the New York State Bar and proceeded to work in the Claims Division of the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company.
James worked as a corporation counsel in the Law Department of the City of New York from 1962 until 1988. He was assigned to the General Litigation Division and appeared on behalf of the City in Family Court, Criminal Court as well as New York State courts and Federal District courts. James was a Fourth Degree member of the Richmond Council No.
351 of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Richmond County Bar Association as well as Saint John’s Law School Alumni Association. He was a member of the Catholic Big Brothers, and served as mentor for youths who were in need of a positive male influence in reforming their lives.
James was a member of the YMCA and participated in various activities. He enjoyed completing the New York Times crossword puzzles. He enjoyed traveling to Ireland, France, England, Italy and Mexico.
James often attended Broadway plays and musicals, as well as performances at the New York Philharmonic of New York City Opera at Lincoln Center. James was a member of the Irish Repertory Theater and he regularly attended productions of famous authors, including George Bernard Shaw. James enjoyed golfing at Silver Lake Golf Course, where he played with his brother, Michael.
He was an avid golf fan who enjoyed watching golf tournaments on television. He was a University of Notre Dame sports fan and enjoyed watching their football and basketball teams. James leaves behind his many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was a mentor to them and will be greatly missed. Visiting hours will be at Harmon Funeral Home, S.I., on Monday, Oct. 29, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct.
