DEERFIELD – Mr. James Patrick “Jim” Italiano, age 51, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 in the privacy of his home. Born in Utica on August 22, 1967, James was the son of Elaine (DeLeo) Italiano and the late Salvatore Italiano. He was raised in Freeport on the island of Grand Bahama where he attended Mary Star of The Sea Catholic Elementary and St. Paul’s High School.

Living in The Bahamas, Jim loved outdoor sports. He enjoyed tennis and was a very strong soccer player. Jim loved the ocean and enjoyed boating and fishing with family.

He especially loved diving for lobster. As a strong swimmer, Jim would snorkel regularly where he found many treasures of the sea. After graduating from high school, he relocated to South Florida where he attended Bauder College and obtained his Associates Technology Degree in Electronics.

After college, Jim returned to Utica to care for his grandmother Angela with whom he shared a tremendous bond of love. He was able to balance his role as private caregiver with his responsibilities in the public workforce. Very conscientious and loyal, he possessed a true blue-collar work ethic and was well respected by his colleagues and friends.

Jim loved his family dearly and he would help others before himself. Although he was a peaceful, content, quiet man, he was not afraid of hard work and it was not in his vocabulary to say “It can’t be done” when it came to any task, no matter how difficult. A spiritual person of the Catholic faith, Jim was a selfless soul who knew the love of God.

James is survived by his mother, Elaine Italiano; his brothers and sister-in-law, Rocco and Samantha Italiano, and Salvatore Italiano; his nieces, Melania, and Valentina Italiano; cousins Carla Jo, Kyle, and Corby; aunt and uncle, Rita and Joe Croce; and a host of relatives in Sicily. He shared a special connection with his girlfriend, Renita Zayas and her sons. He was predeceased by his father, Salvatore; maternal grandparents, Andrea and Angela Marie DeLeo; and paternal grandparents, Rocco and Nunzia Italiano.

A special thank you to family, friends and first responders for their prayers, support and professionalism during Jim’s time of need. The family honored and commemorated Jim’s life at a private time. All funeral services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
