James Robert Lukes, 66 of Lisbon, North Dakota died Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born on November 26, 1951, the son of Edward and Ruby (Froemke) Lukes in Fargo, North Dakota. He was raised and educated in Lisbon.

After graduating from Lisbon High School, he attended Wahpeton School of Science for one year until returning to the family farm. Jim was united in marriage to Lyleen Halvorson on December 4, 1971 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. They made their home in rural Lisbon, where Jim farmed as a 3rd generation farmer.

Farming was Jim’s true calling in life and he farmed until his health would no longer allow him to. Jim loved the outdoors and hunting. He cherished his family, especially his grandchildren.

Jim loved being grandpa. He will be missed by his family and friends. Jim is survived by his wife, Lyleen Lukes of Lisbon, ND; daughter, Darcy (Neil) Sad; sons, Brian (Angela) Lukes, Randy (Maddy) Lukes and Dustin (Tara) Lukes; eleven grandchildren, Tallie, Lakin, Ella, Bailey, Taylon, Garon, Parker, Hunter, Brandon, Alex and Sawyer; one great-granddaughter, Scarlett; sisters, Dorothy (Keith) Davis of Fargo, ND; Pat Hanna of Billings, MT; brothers, Joe (Peggy) Lukes of Lisbon, ND; Jerry (Jean) Lukes of Fargo, ND and David Lukes of Lisbon, ND; mother-in-law, Vivian Halvorson of Milnor, ND; numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Lloyd Halvorson.
