James “Jim” Bragg Sr., 82, of Havelock, passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at Carolina East Medical Center. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 29, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at the Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, officiated by Pastor Ray Gaskins. Interment with military honors will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park in Newport.

Jim joined the United States Marine Corps at an early age. He retired after 22 years as a Gunnery Sergeant with a tour of duty in Korea and two tours of Duty in Vietnam. Following the military he joined the civil service and had a twenty year career with FRC East at MCAS Cherry Point and retired in 1995.

In his spare time he loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a devoted and hardworking husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather that will be missed. James is survived by his wife of 54 years, Catherine Ballew Bragg; granddaughter, Jamie Bragg Davis and husband, Michael; grandson, David Bragg; great-grandchild, Lottie Grace Davis; daughter-in-law, Dana Murray; brothers, Donald, Bill, Tom, Bob, John Wayne, and Paul; sisters, Dorothy, Judy, and Maxine; many loving nieces and nephews; and his military.

James is preceded in death by his son, Jim Bragg Jr.; parents, Hazel Bragg and Sarah Cross Bragg; and brother, Ralph. The family will receive friends from 1:00 till 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 29, 2018, at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans at 468 Highway 70 W., Havelock, NC, 28532.
