Born to the late Walter and Frances (Gabert) Cappel on March 10, 1942 in Milwaukee, WI. Jim was deeply loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Jim married Kathryn Meixner on March 13, 1965 and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a surprise party put on by family and friends in 2015. Jim’s talents were… Read More » numerous. Following in his father’s footsteps, he designed and built abeautiful home on Park Road leading up to Rib Mountain State Park completed in 1988 with his son David’s help.

He gave the term “man cave” a new meaning by including a 5-car garage and additional free-standing 2-car garage. Jim’s love for cars began as a teen as he and his brother owned and operated Cappel’s Standard Service Station at 92nd & Lincoln in West Allis, WI. He restored and/or rebuilt hundreds of cars and trucks over the years with his most prized vehicle being his 1983 Jeep CJ7 which won him many trophies at area car shows – truly a work of art.

Also a talented woodworker, Jim’s beautifully crafted pieces of furniture adorn the family home as well as his children’s homes. Jim could be found in his workshop from sun up to sundown, always tinkering, he could fix anything in need of repair with his attention to detail and quality of work which has become a lost art. Jim is survived by his loving wife Kathi; their two children, David (Gail) Cappel of Weston, WI and Christine (Tom) Reber of Manitou Springs, CO; and four grandchildren, Alex Cappel; Dakota Reber, Tiga Reber, and Iris Reber.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and brother Tom Cappel.
