James’ Obituary Services for Mr. James Watkins, 84, of Hughes Springs will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2019 at Hughes Springs Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Larry Neeley and Bro. Michael Stewart officiating.

Burial will follow at Hughes Springs Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. James Taylor Watkins, 84 of Hughes Springs, Texas passed away peacefully on May 23, 2019.

Born in Cooper, Texas on December 1, 1934, he moved to the Hughes Springs community in 1949. James served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1954 – 1957. He married the love of his life, Linda Reid Watkins on August 13, 1959 and they shared a life together for 50 years.

He was a steel worker, a devoted provider for his family, a loving father and grandfather, a strong Christian and member of Hughes Springs Missionary Baptist Church. James was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin James Taylor Watkins and Hazel Marie Teague Watkins, his wife, Linda Reid Watkins, his brothers Melvin Watkins, Eddie Joe Watkins, Noel Watkins and sister, Loretta Watkins Williams. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Myron and Jana Watkins of Bogata, Ryan and Tricia Watkins of Hughes Springs, brothers and sisters-in-law, Jackie and Carolyn Watkins, Zack Watkins, Shirrel and Donna Watkins, Marlene Watkins, sisters and brothers-in-law, Murlene Watkins Shaddix, Barbara and Dwaine Higgins; grandchildren, Alecia Green, Amber Boyett, Bryce Watkins, Heather Williams, Haley English, Hana Hawkins, Rhagen Watkins, Ryker Watkins, Brittany Lyles and Dustin Lyles.

Great grandchildren are Anna Green, Mattie Green, Hagen Boyett, Kelton Boyett, Adisyn Watkins, Drew Watkins, Ava Williams, Aaden Williams, Eli English and Zachary English, and many nieces and nephews. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He made many friendships throughout his life and he loved visiting and talking about old times.

His family rejoices in knowing he is now in Glory with his Lord and Savior.
