Jane Elizabeth Wood Nogash was an only child born to Charles Gifford Wood and Della Adele (Stabile) Wood on October 04, 1921. She married the “love of her life” Joseph Francis Nogash July 26, 1947 in the Bellevue Heights Methodist Church, performed by the Reverend Walter Tildsley. A family wedding was taking place this past week so she was very happy to be surrounded by everyone who came to be a part of it.
It couldn’t have been a better ending to her life. She was surrounded by her family this past week when she died October 12, 2018 in her home in Camillus, NY where she resided for the past 65 years. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband of 45 years Joseph Francis Nogash.
She is survived by her daughter Sandra (Richard) Schmidt, of Skaneateles, sons David(Nancy) Nogash of San Antonio Texas, and Robert (Roseanne) Nogash of Memphis, NY. grandchildren Dava Lee Schmidt, Devon John (Erica) Schmidt, Courtney(Mathew) Emerson, Lindsay(Thomas) Dittmer and 3 great grandchildren Della Schmidt, Eliot Emerson and David Emerson. Jane graduated from Central Tech High School.
Her father owned a Butcher Shop where she was the first female meat cutter during high school. After graduation from Powelson Business Institute she started her first job at Burhans and Black in 1940’s. She later became the secretary for Square Electric Company for many years and upon retirement of her full time position she helped her daughter in her flower shop for 30 years as the bookkeeper.
She also started her volunteer work with “Meals on Wheels” where she was “honored ” for her 15 years of service. Jane was a member of the Bellevue Heights Methodist Church Syracuse where she was the church secretary, UMW treasurer, Holiday altar guild and the greatest church dinner “chef and cook” for so many church functions and dinners. She ran the “Pie Room” for the Men’s Roast Beef dinners and so many outside groups who were always wanting her to put on a special meal for their organizations.
She was a “rock” of the church. She would always be there for you and go out of her way for her support and help of the church community. She was an avid bridge player, which involved her best girl friends playing weekly in groups and once a month in couples bridge.
Card games were taught by her Dad who also owned a billiard hall in Fort Plain, NY. Her forte was “Fan Tan” “Cribbage” and “Pinochle” just to name a few. Sunday afternoons with family members were fun filled days of “Pitch” and we joked how she always cleaned up!
Jane enjoyed being with her friends and going to Skaneateles Lake, Syracuse Stage and church dinners. She loved being with those great gals she grew up with and stayed friends for years and years. Jane also enjoyed spending summer days at Uncle George’s camp and trips with Joe to Florida.
Her cat “Billy” was her dear companion for the last 12 years and kept her company. She was an avid SU sports fan with Season’s Tickets to Basketball and Football with Joe and her girl friends. We would like to thank the wonderful care she was given by the “Aids” from Nascentia Health and the from the “Hospice Team” of CNY Syracuse.
