Mrs. Jane Marshall Lavender, of Ariton, died Friday evening, September 21, 2018. She was ninety-five years old. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 25, 2018, from Rocky Head Baptist Church with Reverend Bill Weed and Reverend Joe Underwood officiating.

Interment will follow in Mount Olive Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Monday from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Mrs. Lavender was born March 21, 1923 in Ozark, Alabama to the late William Green Marshall and Flossie Lee Searcy Marshall.

She was a member of Rocky Head Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. Mrs. Lavender worked in the Dale County Tax Collectors Office with her father when he was the Dale County Tax Collector and worked as a librarian with the Ariton Library. She was a former member of Ariton Matron’s Study Club and long-time secretary for Mount Olive Cemetery Committee.

Mrs. Lavender always had beautiful flowers in her yard. She loved to quilt, crochet, and was talented in sewing clothes. Her baking skills were well known, especially her tea cakes.

Most of all, she was a loving mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Franklin Lavender, Sr.; her son, Harvey Lavender; one sister, Frances Flowers; and one brother, Billy Marshall. Survivors include one daughter, Sharon A. Lavender of Loxley, Alabama; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas F. Lavender, Jr. and Susan of Ariton; daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Lavender; four grandchildren, Andy (Dixie) Lavender, Ginny (Griff) Durham, Rusty (Michelle) Lavender, Brandy (Eddie Blackmon) Lavender; great grandchildren, Addie, Anna Jane, Tyler, Alyssa, Kylie, Kelsey, Josie, and June; step grandchildren, Lee McCraney, Alicia (Jon) Sturnick, Michael (Wendy) McCraney; step great grandchildren, Jessica, Grant, Eli, Sarah, Austin, and Morgan; one sister, Sarah Mixson.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Mount Olive Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund, C/O Mr. Gerald Goodson, 1681 Hwy 51, Ariton, Alabama 36311; or to Skipperville Community Cemetery Fund, C/O Mrs. Faye Huey, 3489 County Road 50, Ozark, Alabama 36360.
