Jane Patterson April 12, 1927 – November 17, 2018 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book| Send Sympathy Card Jane Riegel Hume Patterson, 91, of Mendota passed away November 17, 2018 in her home at Stonecroft Village, Mendota. Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. December 28, 2018 at First United Methodist Church, Mendota with the Rev.
Mary Bohall officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Merritt Funeral Home of Mendota is assisting the family with arrangements.
Burial will be private at Restland Cemetery at a later date. Jane was born April 12, 1927, in Mendota to Victor and Della (Ammons) Riegel. She married James Hume August 14, 1948.
After his death she married Edward Patterson November 21, 1970. She was a graduate of Mendota High School and Copley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing with an RN Degree. She also attended Bradley University at Peoria and the University of Miami at Coral Gables, Florida.
Jane lived in Mendota until 1970 when she moved to New Canaan, Connecticut. She later moved to Savannah, Georgia, Tempe, Arizona and Chatham, Massachusetts, returning to Mendota in 2014. Before Jane started her travels she was a past president of the Mendota Community Hospital Auxiliary and a chairman of its gift shop.
She also acted in Mendota Community Theater productions. While she lived in Chatham she was the owner of The Glass Owl, a collectible glass shop. Jane loved to dance, play golf, decorate her homes and entertain family and friends.
Jane is survived by her daughters, Marsha (Joseph) Jones, Michelle (Mark) Babin; stepchildren, Drew Patterson, Leslie Patterson, and Amanda (John) Ormond; grandchildren, John (Denice Schmidt) Setchell, Joanne (David) McNally, James “Toby” (Karrie) Setchell, Jessica (Thomas) Sondgeroth, Brent (Julie Stroinski) Babin, Elizabeth (Darren) Pask; step-grandchildren, Jason (Jennifer) Babin, Joseph (DeDe Giacometti) Jones, Jennifer (Jason) Fabish, Jason (Ember Michel) Jones, Zoe Patterson, Alexia Patterson, Samantha Patterson, Nicole Patterson, Renee Ormond and Kelly Ormond. She is also survived by many great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor Riegel and Della Eckart, her husbands, a brother, Wesley Riegel and a sister, Margaret Robeson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to First United Methodist Church, Mendota, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the donor’s choice.
