Janet K. Payne-Rhodes, 83 years old, passed away at 6:46 p.m. on Monday, November 12, 2018 at Memorial Hospital. Janet was born on January 15, 1935 in Villa Grove, IL to the late Arthur and Lena (Allen) Fleener. She has been a lifelong area resident.

On October 27, 1951 in Villa Grove, Janet and Robert F. Payne were united in marriage. Robert passed away on October 5, 1984. On October 21, 1989 in North Liberty, Janet and William Rhodes were united in marriage.

William preceded in death on February 28, 2006. Janet was also preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Moffett on April 9, 2006; granddaughter, Tracy Kusmiez on March 31, 2011; step-daughter, Vicki Schuyler; three sisters, Anna Koss, Virginia Dison-Polk, and Ruth Pringle; and two brothers, Bradley and Arthur Fleener. Janet is survived by her three children, Robert (Dianna) Payne of North Liberty, Mary L. (Ed) Blair of South Bend, and Sharon K. Payne of Walkerton; two step-sons and their families, Robert Rhodes of Plymouth and William Rhodes of California; six grandchildren, Greg (Annie-Michele) Payne, Kevin Payne, Melissa Morton, Daniel Moffett, Kassi (Tyler) Ganus, and Kylie (Ryan Williams) Blair; nine great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and her sister, Betty Hance of Minnesota.

Janet retired from Easy Heat/Wirecraft in Lakeville after many years. She was a faithful member and active servant at North Liberty Church of Christ. Janet was an avid bowler, and volunteered her time for the Walkerton Food Pantry, Walkerton Historical Society and Women’s Care Center in Plymouth.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 16, 2018 at the North Liberty Church of Christ. Pastor Tim Stewart will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.

Friends may visit with the family from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday and from 10-11 a.m. on Friday, both at the North Liberty Church of Christ. Palmer Funeral Home, North Liberty is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Janet K. Payne-Rhodes may be donated to North Liberty Church of Christ, 65225 State Road 23, North Liberty, IN 46554.
