Jean H. Denny, 91, of Derry passed away Saturday, May 12, 2018. Born October 5, 1926 in Derry, a daughter of the late Elmer E. and Nellie Coho Hendrickson. Prior to retirement in 1989, she was a charge nurse in the Obstetrics Dept.

at Latrobe Area Hospital. Jean was a 1944 graduate of Derry Borough High School, a 1947 graduate of Shadyside Hospital School of Nursing and received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education from the University of Pittsburgh in 1953. She also taught in the Latrobe Hospital School of Nursing, was a school nurse in the Derry Borough Schools and following retirement, worked as a substitute school nurse in the Derry and Latrobe School Districts.

She served as treasurer of Mended Hearts, Greater Latrobe Chapter, Secretary of Greensburg Quota Club and Volunteer Coordinator of the Latrobe Hospital “Getting Ready for Baby Program” for big brothers and sisters of newborns. Jean was a member of the Derry First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Latrobe Area Hospital Aid Society, Sigma Theta Tau, a Trustee at Torrance State Hospital and a driver for Meals-on-Wheels. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her stepmother Elizabeth Hendrickson, and her loving husband John R. “Jack” Denny in 2007.

Jean is survived by her five children; David B. Allison and wife Carla of Mansfield Texas, James E. Denny and wife Kimberly of Quiet Dell, WV, Leslie J. McClarren and husband James of Derry, Edward N. Denny of California, PA, and John R. Denny Jr. and wife Kelley of Pittsburgh. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren; Donnie Allison and wife Denise, Brandi Lira, Marci Steele and husband Mark, Sarah Sterrett and husband Adam, Laura Kate Bernstein and husband Eitan, Andrew Denny, Neal McClarren and wife Alaina, Natalie McClarren, John “Jack” Denny and Patrick, Kelsey and Cassie Denny. Ten great grandchildren Nicholas and Allyssa Allison, Allyson Grosskreutz and Lauryn Lira, Julianne and Oliver Steele, Rowan Sterrett, Leo and Reid Bernstein and Scarlett McClarren.

Two stepsisters Mary Linda Cochran of Scottsdale, AZ and Paula Seacrist of Hershey Pa, also survive. Jean enjoyed playing cards and family vacations to the beach. She took great pride in all of her children and grandchildren and loved them all very much.

In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be made to the Derry United Methodist Church or Meals on Wheels. A special thanks to Latrobe Hospice and all her caregivers. Family will receive friends Friday from 2-8 pm at the McCabe Funeral Home, Derry.

A funeral service will be conducted Saturday May 19th at the Derry United Methodist Church at 11 am. Interment to follow in Coles Cemetery.
