Jerry Farella, age 63, of New Smyrna Beach, died Saturday November 24 at Halifax Hospice Edgewater. A Sanford native and graduate of Seminole High School, he loved living in New Smyrna Beach for the last 25 years. In the boat business his entire life, Jerry and Donna owned and operated Leader Yacht Sales for the last 10 years.

Known by all as a very honest, kind, man of his word, always helping someone with their boat or sharing offshore fishing numbers. He will be greatly missed by many. Jerry was very passionate and competitive in offshore/inshore fishing, catching lobster, spear fishing, flounder gigging, dirt bike and jet ski racing, building custom motorcycles, rebuilding boat motors and captaining boats for friends.

He is remembered by many boat owners for diagnosing, fixing or teaching them boat mechanics. He was happiest when he was diving or fishing with Tommy and friends or could share his years of fishing knowledge with anyone who wanted to learn to fish. A very devoted family man, Jerry is survived by his wife, Donna; son, Tommy (Katherine); grandson, Fischer of New Smyrna Beach; mother, Marion Farella; sisters, Carol Larson and Diana Pavgouzas (Jimmy); nephews, Eric, Shane, Tyler, Nicholas and Anthony all of Lake Mary; sister-in-law, Vicki Nute (Barry) of New Smyrna Beach; sister-in-law, Rhonda Lewis (Mark) and nieces, Ashley & Lauren all of Montgomery, Texas.

A celebration of Jerry’s life will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 3 at the Brannon Civic Center, 105 S. Riverside, New Smyrna Beach, with Father Richard Trout, officiating. The reception will immediately follow on site. Immediately after the reception the family will proceed by boat to the inlet to spread Jerry’s ashes off shore.

All friends are invited to join the procession on their personal boats, meeting at the North Bridge for the 3:00 opening. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society SE Florida, 1737 N. Clyde Morris Blvd. , Suite 140, Daytona Beach, FL 32117.
