OBITUARY Jo Ellen Keefer January 17, 1933 – January 24, 2019 Jo Ellen Keefer passed away on Thursday, the 24th of January 2019. She was born on the 17th of January 1933 in Livingston, Texas and upon graduation from Livingston High School she moved to Houston in 1950 to attend Durham Business College. After graduating, she worked as a secretary at the Texas Medical Center planning office.
Then worked for several different companies including United Gas Company and American Bridge Division of U. S. Steel Corporation. In 1972 they opened the Hillcroft Washateria and Dry Cleaning Business and she managed that for 10 years. After selling the business she went to work at Exxon Company and retired there in 1994.
She and her husband loved to travel and about every two years would take trips throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, England and Europe. Jo was a member of Second Baptist Church and the Gospel Truth Bible Study Class; and was an active member in the Life Line Support Organization for Widows and Widowers. ; Streamliner’s, Loving Friends, LIFT Organization and Braes Bayou Exxon Mobil Retiree Club.
Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Martin J. Keefer and her parents, William Albert and Othie Parrish Dickens. She is survived by her son, Martin T Keefer; sister, Audra Mae Murphy; niece, Jo Carol and her husband George Stutts; great nephew, Ray Stutts and his daughter, Chloe; great niece Santana and her husband Marshall McMurrey; and a number of cousins. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Tuesday, the 19th of January, in the drawing room of Geo.
H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. An interment service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 30th of January, at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Road in Houston. In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to Second Baptist Church; 6400 Woodway Dr., Houston, TX 77057.
