Joan Mary (Sterosky) McSherry, age 79, died Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at The Carriage House of Bay City. She was born on September 15, 1939 to the late Ernest A. and Sara M. (Lucas) Sterosky on September 15, 1939 in Port Huron, MI. Joan graduated from the Mercy School of Nursing in Detroit, Mt.

Carmel Unit-class of 1960. She then worked at Mercy Hospital in Port Huron for 2 years before moving to Bay City to take a job at Bay City’s Mercy Hospital where she met Leo. On May 23, 1964,… Read More » she married Dr. Leo B. McSherry, M.D. who predeceased her in 2014.

She is survived by their three daughters: Kathleen McSherry, Maureen (Charles) Stevens, Colleen (Terry) Banaszak; five grandchildren: Jillian and Noah (fiancee Morgan Reynolds) Stevens, Olivia (Stephen) Trawick, Alexander and Chloe Banaszak; one great-granddaughter, Cecilia Stevens-Rivera; her brother Earnest A. (Beth) Steroksy, Jr.; several nieces and nephews; and 28 of her 30 (Lucas) cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Sally M. Carrico and mother-in-law, Evelyn McSherry. Joan loved books.

She was an avid reader, worked in her school library and her public library as a teenager; and as a parent was the volunteer librarian at Holy Rosary Academy for several years. She has been a member of the St. Boniface Church Choir (All Saints Parish) for almost 40 years; and a member of the Bay Heritage Quilters Guild for over 20 years-serving two terms as President. She was also a lifelong cheerleader for the beatification of Solanus Casey who she was blessed to meet as a little girl when his intervention in prayer saved her sister’s life.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Carriage House as well as McLaren-Bay Region for the generous care Joan received. They would also like to thank their friends and extended family for their prayers, piles of greeting cards, and the gracious assistance this past year and a half. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Saturday, October 27.

2018 at 10:00 AM at All Saints Parish (Church of St. Boniface), 510 N. Lincoln Street, Bay City, MI. Joan will lie in state in church Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. Rev.

Fr. Jose Maria Cabrera will preside. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the National Lupus Foundation, American Heart Association or Solanus Casey Center.
