Obituary for Joan Solomon Joan Solomon passed away surrounded by her family, on October 6, 2018, at Boca Raton Regional Hospital in Florida. She was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Joan loved life and lived joyously.
Joan was born in Memphis, TN on July 16, 1932. Beloved wife for 43 years to the late Sherman Solomon and daughter to late Henrietta and Leon Kaplan. Together, Joan and Sherm worked side by side in their liquor stores for their entire marriage.
Joan was a lifetime member of Hadassah and a longtime member of Beth Sholom Synagogue. She also raised her children at Baron Hirsch Synagogue and had affiliations with Anshei Sphard Congregation. Joan loved to cook especially for the Jewish Holidays.
Her home was always a gathering place for family and friends. She loved playing Mahjongg all her adult life. She enjoyed old movies, modern romantic comedies, binge watching Netflix and Amazon Prime original series, and especially loved game shows, never missing “The Wheel of Fortune”.
Joan move to Boca Raton, FL in the last year of her life to be with family as she fought a courageous battle against lung cancer. Joan charmed every new person she met in Florida and spent precious time with her family and new friends. She was Eve & Cora’s favorite playmate and loved facetiming with Jude, Aviva and Jacob.
Joan was preceded in death by brothers Dr. Stanley (Sue) Kaplan and Sidney (Rosalee) Kaplan. She is survived by her loving family: son Larry (Jane) Solomon, Boca Raton, FL, daughters Marci (Chuck) Goldstein of Tampa, FL, and Sharon Solomon of Nashville, TN. Grandchildren Kim (Brian) Chodash, Alex (Hillary) Solomon, Jennifer (David) Kaplan, Amie (Ryan) Knisley, Stephanie (Jake) Hill, Alison (Adrian) Doggrell, Jason (Leah) Goldstein, & Stacey (David) Katz.
Great grandchildren Eve, Cora, Jude, Aviva, and Jacob. Services will be held Wednesday at 4:00 p.m., October 10th at Anshei Sphard Cemetery. Shiva will be held following services and on Thursday 12-2 & 5-9 at the home of Leah & Jason Goldstein 1753 Bekah Rd.
