JoAnn Meltz Wales Leddy passed from her earthly life into eternal light on Sunday, December 9, 2018. On September 25, 1936, JoAnn was born to Orville and Marie Meltz of Appleton, second to her twin sister Judy. She attended St. Therese Catholic School and Appleton Senior High School graduating with the class of 1954.

In 1955, she married George Wales, a truly fine gentleman, and together they raised five children. George and JoAnn owned and operated “Little George’s” bar and restaurant in downtown Appleton from 1974 to 1979. Upon selling Little George’s, JoAnn worked for Interstate Valweld until her retirement.

In their free time, they enjoyed downhill skiing, traveling, and throwing pool parties. In 1983, JoAnn married John “Jack” Leddy and she inherited five more daughters. Lynn, Cheri, Pat, Lorrie, and Leah.

Together Jack and JoAnn traveled, played cribbage, and golfed all the courses they could. JoAnn is survived by her five children: Peter (Barbie) Wales, Ohio, Jim Wales, Appleton, Katie (Mike) Hackstock, Neenah, Joy Ann (Pat) Graham, Arizona, and Caroline (Steve) Kellogg, Neenah; she is also survived by her siblings: Judy Davis, Appleton, Ramona Meltz, Appleton, and John (Gina) Meltz, Oshkosh. She if further survived by several nieces and nephews.

JoAnn was very proud of her grandchildren: Tonya (Steve) Floyd, Nick (Michelle) Wales, Sara (Gus) Lindvig, Elizabeth Wales, Natashia (Bobby) Winslow, Bobby Wales, Jack Wales, Lucy Wales, Ashley (Matt) Brochtrup, Jenna (David) VanderVelde, Conley Graham, and Riley Graham. “Granny” will also be missed by her great grandchildren Dylan, Kilee, Caden, Braeden, Lilly, Alison, Brayten, Westin, Rylan, Kayden, Gavin, Grant, Hannah, Evan, and baby Brochtrup who will be born in May. JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents Orville and Marie Meltz, two husbands: George Wales and Jack Leddy, her brother Larry (Lois) Meltz, her mother and father-in-law Rowe and Helen Wales, her mother-in-law Alice Leddy, her sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Fred “Doc” Doctor, her brother-in-law Bill Wales, brother-in-law Bernie Davis, brother-in-law Jerry Schroeder, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will take place at 11 am on Saturday, December 15, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 404 W. Lawrence St., Appleton, with Father James Leary OFM Cap officiating. Friends may visit at the church on Saturday from 9 am until 10:45 am. Inurnment will take place at Highland Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Her family would like to thank Angie Reetz and the wonderful RN’s and staff at Brewster Village for all the care and comfort given to JoAnn this past year. A special thank you to her niece Krissy Jaloszynski for all the love and support during this time.
