Joann’s Obituary MARION, VA Joann New Matney age 91 passed away on Wednesday May 8, 2019 at the Carrington Place at Rural Retreat, VA. Mrs. Matney was born in Marion on April 30, 1928 to the late Hasting & Mabel New. She is also preceded in death by her husband Pastor Theodore Matney; daughter Carolyn Sue Mullins; and several brothers and sisters.

She retired with over 25 years of service from the SWVA Mental Health Institute as a dietician. Survivors include her son Lee Pennington of KY; sister Janice New of WV; grandchildren Roger Mullins of CO, Mabel Herbert & husband James of VT, Cecil Mullins & wife Mallisa of Marion, and Bob Pennington of MI; son-in-law Earl Roger Mullins; several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews also survive. The family would like to express a special Thanks to the nurses and staff at Carrington Place of Rural Retreat, CNA Dacie Blevins, CNA Teresa Anderson, and special friends Bo Teaster and wife Zandra, and Jimmy Steele.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Monday May 13, 2019 from the Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel in Marion. Interment will follow in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00PM on Monday at the funeral home.
