OBITUARY JoAnn Mosier Scartaccini December 30, 1934 – September 18, 2018 Play Tribute Movie JoAnn Mosier Scartaccini, beloved wife, mother, aunt and friend passed away September 18th, 2018 at the age of 83 in Houston, Texas. Born December 30th, 1934 in Decaturville, Missouri, she is a graduate of Highland High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas. She was happily married for 52 years to Joseph G. Scartaccini, and they were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Kindi.
Her career in education began immediately upon graduating in 1957 as a professor at Delta State College in Mississippi and then to LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she taught anatomy, kinesiology and headed up the dance department. During this time, she came to love the South, expanded her horizons and had memorable dance performances which included working with Bill Conti and even performing for patients in a leper colony with her dance troop. She was working on her thesis for her doctorate on Navajo Ceremonial dances in Farmington, New Mexico when she met Joe.
They married and settled in Farmington for a brief time before moving on to Michigan and Texas. She continued with her love of dance by choreographing and performing in small theatres as well as teaching. When Joe was promoted to Director of Financial and Commercial Division in Mexico City, Mexico, DF, they packed up and began a new journey which allowed for more travel, which they loved including countries like Costa Rica and Brazil.
She also began painting in oils during this time and became quite prolific even showing in Mexico City. After returning to Houston Texas, she continued in education and then retail. She still dabbled in painting, but found great joy in the various groups and committees she was involved with at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church.
She enjoyed traveling, boating, snow skiing, tennis, good music, dancing, hosting parties and a great sunset, especially in New Mexico. She loved her time with her granddog, Bogie and he was the recipient of many belly rubs and treats. She was most happy surrounded by family and friends, a good meal and much laughter and love.
She has been described to me in the last few weeks as spunky, energetic, funny, kind, caring, wonderful, artistic, loyal, brave and courageous, tenacious and an angel. Many of you considered her to be like a mother, a sister and a best friend. Welcoming Jodi into eternal life are her husband, Joe Scartaccini, her granddog Bogie, her parents, John Riley and Stella Mosier, her siblings Hazel Crall, James W. Mosier, Imogene Mosier and Darlene Giles.
Jodi leaves behind to cherish her memories her loving daughter Kindi Scartaccini; Brother, John W. Mosier and wife Mary Lou; Nieces, Debi King and husband Robert King, Wanda Smiraldo, Tracey Mosier, Kristi Mosier and Mary Kate Mosier; Nephew Michael Waterfield and wife Karen and a host of great nieces and nephews; Mike Smith, who was much like a son to her, and his wife Wendy Smith and daughters Hannah and Shayne; And countless dear friends who have filled her life with joy. She will be missed and loved forever by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Crusader Fund in memory of Jodi Scartaccini: payit.
