Joanne E. Brickner, 87, of Tiffin, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Mercy Health-Tiffin Hospital. On August 10, 1930 in Tiffin, she was born to Frank J. and Edith E. (Swartz) Mueller. She married Joseph W. Brickner on June 21, 1958 in St. Joseph Catholic Church and he preceded her in death on September 7, 2013.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathryn (Chris) Baker of New Market, ON. Canada; two sons, Dr. Richard (Lee Ann) Brickner of Lake Forest, IL; Dr. Thomas E. (Beth) Brickner of Chapel Hill, NC; two brothers, Robert (Leona) Mueller of West Minster, CA. , C. Michael (Dee) Mueller of Shelby; sister, Margaret (Larry) Ahle of Tiffin and 10 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Rev. Eugene Mueller, Richard Lewis, James Allen, and John Edward, her twin brother. Joanne was a member and Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary Catholic Church and a graduate of Tiffin Calvert High School, class of 1949.
She continued her education, graduating from Mt. Carmel School of Nursing in 1952 and Heidelberg College with a Bachelor of Science in Allied Health in 1984. Her nursing career began at the Cleveland Clinic for four years as a Registered Nurse and later at Tiffin Mercy Hospital for 29 years where she provided Clinical Nursing and later as Director of Nursing until her retirement in 1993.
After retiring, she volunteered at Mercy Hospital until her death. Previously, she taught CPR and First Aid classes and smoking prevention to local schools for many years. Joanne was very active in Lady Knights (K of C), Y-Wives, Serra Club, Professional Nurses Club for years, currently as acting Treasurer.
Joanne was truly a “Senior on the Go” swimming daily at the YMCA, golfing, playing Bridge and traveling with the Allen Eiry Senior Center. What she mostly cherished was time with her family, playing games with her grandchildren and being the host to many family get togethers at her home. Joanne will be remembered for her commitment to her church, family, a volunteer to various organizations and a great Mom, Grandma, and friend to many.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, June 25, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Walters officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
A Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass. Friends may visit with family from 6-9:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883. A Wake service will begin at 5:30 PM and the Professional Nursing Club will meet in body at 8:45 PM.
