Mr. Joe Lee Lampkin departed this life on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at the Oak Hill Rehabilitation Nursing Facility (Lorain, OH) following an extended illness. He was 69. Joe Lee Lampkin was born February 10, 1949, in Clarksdale, Mississippi to the parents of William and Mildred (Metcalf) Lampkin.

He relocated with his family to Elyria, OH at an early age. Joe attended the Elyria City School system and had been a resident of Elyria for over sixty years. Over the years, he worked for several large companies including the Ford Motor Company and GM.

Joe was a skilled handyman and helped many persons from time to time, including occasional work for the Cater Funeral Home. He loved to listen to jazz, working out, and he had a deep affection for dogs and squirrels. His favorite mode of transportation involved walking and riding his 10-speed bike everywhere that he went.

Joe also had a unique gift with numbers. He could manipulate numbers in every type of sequence, pattern, and could give any person that worked with stats a run for their money. In his past time, he enjoyed playing spades, dominoes, and finding an occasion to make his sisters mad.

Joe teased all of his nieces and nephews by asking them for money. If they declined to help, then he would keep asking. If they gave him what he asked for, then he asked for more.

Joe was a loyal friend, a feisty brother, and an uncle that all the nieces and nephews could expect a laugh from. He left all of us with memories that we will be able to cherish forever. Joe Lee Lampkin was preceded in death by his grandparents Henry and Hattie Henderson; Robert Lee Metcalf; Sam Lampkin and Lillian Rayford; step-grandfather Rev.

Ben F. Rayford; father, William Lampkin; mother, Mildred (Metcalf) Lampkin; brothers, JC Lampkin, Robert Lee Lampkin, Little Pete Lampkin; Earnest Lampkin, Charles Lampkin; three little angels, Mary, Martha, and Elizabeth, triplets that lived only a few hours; sisters, Hattie (Lampkin) Crim and Cora Lee (Lampkin) Hervey. Joe Lee Lampkin is survived by his sister, Bertha May (Lampkin) Bryant and brother-in-law Chester A. Bryant; step-brother Willie Lampkin; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1986 and was baptized under the leadership of Rev.

Henry L. Johnson, III, Senior Pastor, Second Baptist Church, Elyria, OH. He lived a long life, and near the end, he came to understand the meaning of God’s grace, mercy, and unconditional love. That same unconditional love allowed Joe to share love with his beloved son, Orlando Lampkin Shumate.

Joe Lee Lampkin will be deeply missed by his entire family, and all that knew him.
