OBITUARY John Arthur Melancon “John the Coffee Man” August 29, 1943 – October 5, 2018 “John the Coffee Man” was born in Klotzville, LA, on August 29, 1943, to Theodule F. Melancon, of Welcome, LA and Margaret Wells Melancon of Tomahawk, WI. He passed away peacefully at The Carpenter House on Friday, October 5, 2018, at the age of 75. John grew up in Brulsy, LA and was the second son of seven boys (no girls).

He served in the Navy as a helicopter mechanic and upon his honorable discharge, he entered LSU and graduated in 1969 with a B.S. degree. He married the love of his life, Sheila Schaeffer, in 1967, and they have shared a glorious life together for 51 years. John was very dedicated to his Catholic faith and his parish church, St. Jean Vianney, where he was very active in several ministries, Knights of Columbus and the Men’s Club.

In 1997, John and Sheila together established River Road Coffees. Their son, Ian, now runs the successful coffee business. Their daughter, Adrienne, runs her Digital Marketing Agency in New Orleans, LA.

John loved his Baton Rouge community and was an active member of Rotary of BR, supported Catholic Community Radio, donated River Road Coffees to many charitable events and causes, including St. Vincent de Paul. He was also a board member for the Pennington YMCA. John was an avid angler, and fishing with his best friend, Terry Pesson, were always the “best fishing days ever”!

And he liked to kayak fish. John is survived by his devoted wife, Sheila; son, Ian Melancon (Carol); daughter, Adrienne Folse (Robert); grandchildren, Brenden and Cara Folse; and brothers, Teddy (Anita), Michael, Henry (Irene) and Tommy (Linda) Melancon. John Melancon is preceded in death by this parents Theodule and Margaret Melancon; brothers Paul and Donald Melancon.

Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd. , Baton Rouge, LA, on Monday, October 8, 2018, from 5:00PM until 8:00PM. Visitation will resume at St. Jean Vianney Catholic Church, 16166 S. Harrells Ferry Rd.

, Baton Rouge, LA, on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, from 9:00AM until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM. Burial will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s name to Catholic Community Radio or Pennington YMCA.
