La Grangeville, NY – John Austin Flint, 78, passed away this morning, September 18, 2018 at The Grand Nursing Home in Poughkeepsie, NY. John was born with cerebral palsy and lived with his parents Gilbert A. Flint and Catherine W. Bockée Flint on Flint Hill Farm in Amenia, NY until the death of his mother in 1965 when he then became institutionalized at Wassaic State School. He later became a resident of ICF Payne House.

The staff at Payne House provided professional and loving care for many years – special thanks go to his most recent nurse Heather. John is survived by his brother Philip L. Flint of Pompano Beach, FL, his favorite niece Louise Schullery Cox of Windsor Lakes, CT, his cousin Nancy Greer of Millbrook, NY, many nieces, nephews, cousins and also by one of his legal guardians, Leonard H. Smith. There are no calling hours.

Burial will be in Smithfield Cemetery at a later date. Contributions may be made to Dutchess ARC 84 Patrick Lane Suite 130 Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A service organization for individuals with cerebral palsy.
