Obituary for John C. “Jack” Martin On May 11, 2018, John C. Martin, known to friends as “Jack,” passed away after a brief illness at the age of 83 years. Jack is survived by his wife of 30 years, Sonya; sons: John Martin, Jr. (Tina), Thomas Martin (Laura), and James Sublett (Sheri); daughters: Pamela Martin and Susan Tursky (John); four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Eugene Martin (Geri). He was predeceased by his parents, Elmer and Helen Martin, and his daughter, Katey.

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jack attended Holy Angels Grade School and Purcell High School. He started his career in the metal industry in 1954 at Joseph T. Ryerson and in 1976 founded his own manufacturing plant in New Jersey which he ran for 28 years. Jack was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan, serving as a Reds batboy and then starting the Junior Reds Program, he was recognized as being the youngest umpire in Cincinnati.

For over 30 years, Jack, a zealous golfer and humanitarian, worked tirelessly to organize golf tournaments to support local charities and benefits, including Brett Kessler Leukemia Benefit, Collier County Junior Deputies, Eric Holzen Cancer Tournament, and Henry Panaccia Benefit, as well as Arnie’s Army for Prostate Cancer, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Funeral services for Jack will be held on Monday, May 14, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Ministries, 7675 Davis Boulevard, Naples, (www. newhopeministries.org) with Pastor Heath Jarvis officiating.

Light refreshments will follow. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Naples Memorial Gardens, 525 111th Avenue North, Naples. The family has requested that donations in Jack’s memory be sent to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Bonita Chapter, 3655 Bonita Beach Road SE, Suite 4, Bonita Springs, FL 34134.
