Obituary for Ronald W. “Ron” O’Keefe Ronald W. O’Keefe, 84, of Naples, FL passed away on May 3rd at his residence in Naples. Ron is survived by his five children, Robert O’Keefe and his wife Kathleen of Columbus, OH; Kevin O’Keefe and his wife Debbie of Mason, OH; Patrick O’Keefe and his wife Faye of Ramona, CA; Kathleen O’Keefe of Mukwonago, WI; and Michael O’Keefe and his wife Colleen of Sammamish, WA; and his thirteen grandchildren – Shannon, Kelly, Jesse, Jenni, Eva, William, Daniel and his wife Ashlee Hurff, Joshua, Sarah, Jacob, Caroline, Matthew, and Rebecca. Ron’s wife of 54 years Mary O’Keefe, passed away on August 18, 2011.
Ron was born on April 6, 1934 in Wausau, WI and grew up in De Pere, WI. He is a graduate of St. Norbert College in De Pere, Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering, and Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. where he was awarded a Juris Doctor degree. Ron served two years in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Fort Belvoir, Virginia and Fort Campbell, Kentucky as a Platoon Leader and Company Commander.
Ron spent his career of 39 years with General Electric Company in Legal Counsel positions with several GE businesses. From 1979 through 1996 when he retired, he served as General Counsel for GE’s Medical Systems business in Milwaukee, WI. Ron was an avid tennis player at Quail Creek Country Club in Naples.
He also enjoyed hiking, especially with his children and grandchildren. He hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon four times – twice from the South Rim and twice from the North Rim. He also hiked to the top of Mt.
Fuji in Japan. At family reunions in Colorado over the years, he summited six of Colorado’s 14,000 foot peaks with family members including Mt. Sherman when he was age 80.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11am on Friday, June 1st at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Naples. Following the Mass, a reception and lunch for friends and family will be held at Quail Creek Country Club. Ron’s family extends special thanks to the kind and loving caregivers of SeniorCare Family Services, Assisting Hands, Avow Palliative Care and Hospice.
