John “Big John” C. Schoenly, age 67, passed away September 19th after a courageous battle with cancer. John was born on July 8th 1951 in Barberton. He volunteered his service to our country in the U.S Air Force, served his coworkers in the union and served his community as a baseball coach and umpire.

John was a proud resident of Barberton; as he stayed active in the community and most notably with the schools. He was inducted into the Barberton Sports Hall of Fame and was a recipient of the O.C. Barber award. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Mona Schoenly; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Charles and Jean Swisher; brother, Davey Schoenly; and the love of his life and wife of 37 years, Drue Schoenly.

John is survived by his daughter, Amanda (Greg) Ward; son, John (Jessica) Schoenly; grandchildren and light of his life, Carter, Cameron, and Alivia; brother, Randy Schoenly; sister, Pam Schoenly; uncle and aunt, Max and Judy Bill; grand-dogs, Vegas and Bella; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family will receive friends, Monday September 24, 2018 from 4:00-7:00pm at Cox- McNulty Funeral Home, 222 Norton Avenue, Barberton, Ohio. Graveside services with full military honors will take place at Ohio Western National Cemetery on Thursday, September 27 at 1:00pm.
