John D. “Jack” Foley 1942-2019 Old Forge: John D. “Jack” Foley, 76, of Old Forge, NY, passed away on March 5th, 2019 at Sitrin Health Care Center, New Hartford, with his loving family by his side. Born in Washington, D.C. on July 14, 1942, Jack was the son of the late John and Helen Foley. At the age of 3, he moved with his family to Old Forge, where he attended primary school and developed a lifelong passion for skiing.

Jack graduated with a combination engineering degree from St. Lawrence and RPI in 1965, after which he worked for the State of NY and then a private engineering firm in Pittsburgh. In 1968 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a Civil Engineer until 1971. He then returned to Old Forge to run the family business, Foley Lumber & Hardware, until 2002 when his Parkinson’s disease made it too difficult to continue.

Jack was a dedicated Catholic and member of St. Bartholomew’s Parish in Old Forge. He was a loving and caring man who made the best of his retirement in Old Forge, tending to his home and Corvettes, traveling, and skiing until an unfortunate decline in his condition and subsequent move to Sitrin. He leaves behind his beloved wife: Connie Payne Foley; his children: Burton Foley (Alison Bell) of Williamsburg, VA; Elisabeth Foley Kinsky (Andrew Kinsky) of Westborough, MA; Patrick Foley (Monica Connors) of Port Republic, MD; Ryan Foley, of Arlington, VA,; stepchildren: Timothy Pylman (Kristin Rowlands) of Old Forge; and Erica Lachance (Jay Lachance) of Douglas, MA; four grandchildren: Tyler Kinsky, Paige Kinsky, Johanna Foley and James Foley; four step grandchildren: Kayla Abriel, Lauren Abriel, Aria Lachance and Collin Lachance; a brother: Dennis Foley (Patricia Abrain); and sister: Louise Foley.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. John Pylman and to the entire staff at Sitrin and those who came to see Jack in his final days, especially his lifetime friend Jim Greenfield. Jack/Papa will be sorely missed by his family and friends. The funeral will be on Saturday, March 16, 2019, 11:00 a.m., at St. Bartholomew’s Church, Cosby Blvd.

Interment will be at the convenience of the family in the spring. Friends may consider Parkinson’s Foundation or the Michael J. Fox Foundation in memory of Jack. Envelopes will be at the church.
