Obituary for John Drew John Michael Drew, beloved husband, father and grandfather, and loyal friend passed away on October 20, 2018. Born August 8, 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio, John graduated from Miami UNiversity in Oxford, Ohio with a degree in Kinesiology and Physical Education. While there, he co-captained the University’s football team.

Upon graduation, John accepted the position of Physical Education and Health teacher at Brecksville Junior High School in Brecksville, Ohio, a Cleveland suburb. This marked the beginning of his professional career that spanned over four decades and combined his educational training with his love of sports, particularly football. Not surprisingly, John met his future wife, Nancy Leu at a basketball game.

After a whirlwind courtship, they were married at Saint James Lutheran Church in Cleveland on June 16, 1962. Between 1961 and 1968, John’s skill as a wide receiver made him a valuable asset to the Cleveland Bulldogs as well as the Canton Bulldogs, two teams in the United Football League. Then in 1965 he joined the Philadelphia Bulldogs, part of the Continental Football League.

The Bulldogs won the league title in December 1966. Counted as one of the team’s top players during this championship year, John was credited with a total of 68 receptions. The Drew family settled in Marlton, New Jersey in 1965 and remained there for 19 years.

During this time, John accepted positions teaching Physical Education and Health at both Triton High School in Runnemede, New Jersey and Highland High School in Blackwood, New Jersey. He then joined Temple University’s football coaching staff where he stayed for 13 years. 1984 brought a major change to the Drew family.

John accepted the position of Assistant Director to the Athletic Director at Louisiana State University in Baton Rogue, Louisiana. He later became Assistant Director of Recreational Sports at Louisiana State University. October 1, 2006 marked John and Nancy’s return to New Jersey and settlement in Southampton Township’s Leisuretown community.

John is the beloved husband of 56 years of Nancy Drew (nee Leu). Loving father of Tracey Kelley (Keith Lewis), Michael Drew, Sean Drew (Nicole) and Derek Drew (Angela Perez). Dearly loved grandfather of Katiania, Natalia and Christian Drew.

Dear brother in law of Tim Leu (Cheryl) and dear uncle of Doug Leu (Janice) and Amy Godwin (Dan) and their children.
