John E. Wilson, 74, of Coal Valley, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 19, 2018, at Christ United Methodist Church, 3801 7th Street, East Moline. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601-38th Avenue, Moline.

Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church or to the Orion Booster Club. John was born on July 18, 1943, in Delaware, Ohio, the son of Eugene M. and Ruth S. (Stoddard) Wilson.

He married Mary Kay DeCapp on June 28, 1969, in East Moline. John graduated from Fairbanks High School in Milford Center, OH. He then went on to The Ohio State University, where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering.

While there he was a member of the Sigma Pi Fraternity and later became a member of The Ohio State Alumni Club. John worked at John Deere as a Mechanical Engineer for 36 years before retiring in 2002. He was a member of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers.

He was a 50-year member of Christ United Methodist Church, a former member of the Colona School Board and past President of the Orion Booster Club. John loved sports and was an avid Buckeye fan, however, his greatest enjoyment was his family and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Mary Kay Wilson; children, Todd (Lisa) Wilson, Cary, NC, Veronica (Thad) Schroeder, Coal Valley, Valerie (Kelly) DeSmet, Milan, and Jarred (Sarah) Wilson, Westerville, OH; grandchildren, Benjamin, Jonathan, Elizabeth, and Samuel Wilson, Cole and Morgan Schroeder, Julia and Ella DeSmet, and Isabel and Dylan Wilson; sister Joan (James) Jambor, Dayton, OH; nephews, Michael and Douglas Jambor.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew Scott Jambor.
