Obituary for John Eaton Services for John Eaton, of New Virginia, will be Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Martensdale Community Church in Prole, Iowa. Interment will follow at the Brinegar Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Friday, September 28, 2018, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., at the church.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to HCI Hospice. John James Eaton was born October 31, 1951 to James and Irene Eaton in Des Moines, Iowa. John was one of three children born to the couple.

He grew up alongside his siblings in Des Moines and graduated from Tech High School in 1969. On September 28, 1974, John was united in marriage to Nancy Burns of Chariton, Iowa. The couple was blessed with three children: Jake, Laura, and Abbey.

They raised their family on an acreage near New Virginia, Iowa. John worked for the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union 33 for forty-eight years. He worked hard both at work and outside of work.

John enjoyed putting up hay on their land. He also enjoyed raising and showing sheep at fairs. He was active in his community as a Boy Scout leader, an Elk and Lion Member, a Lee Township member, and an Awana volunteer.

He loved the outdoors and spent a lot of his time hunting, fishing, boating, and camping. John enjoyed coffee, visiting with family and friends, and could start up a conversation with anyone. He was also an animal lover.

Above all else, John enjoyed spending time with his family. His wife, children, and grandchildren meant the world to him. John passed away on September 25, 2018 at the Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston at the age of 66.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of almost 44 years, Nancy Eaton; children: Jake (Trudy) Eaton, Laura (Lafe) Dukes, and Abbey (Jim) Mease; grandchildren: Brittany, Gus, Hattie, Holden, and Carly; sister, Linda (Don) Corigliano; and sister-in-law, Marjean Eaton. John was preceded in death by his parents, James and Irene Eaton; brother, Tom Eaton; and grandson, James Mease Jr. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of John Eaton please visit our Sympathy Store.
