Obituary for Jerry Lee Goode Funeral services for Jerry Goode, 83, of Chariton will be Monday, September 24, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Interment will be at the Chariton Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Sunday, September 23rd, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Kiwanis or Boy Scout Troop 149. Jerry was born on April 19, 1935, in rural Lucas County to Merle F. Goode and Hazel C. (Nine) Goode. Jerry grew up in Chariton and attended Chariton Community Schools.

He served in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant working on K5 Bombsite Systems on aircraft from 1953 until 1957. Jerry married Betty Louise McKinley Krutsinger on June 25, 1959. He raised Betty’s sons, Danny Krutsinger and Gordon Krutsinger, as his own.

The couple lived in Chariton all of their married lives. Jerry worked for Caterpillar when they were married. After that, he became a journeyman electrician and worked with his father in Chariton and the surrounding area.

He also worked for Kinsey Electric in Indianola for a time. In 1965, he became a Master Plumber and worked for Lyman and Devore Plumbing and Heating in Chariton – which he loved. He later became partner in the business with Allen Devore and changed the name to Devore and Goode.

When Jerry later bought out his partner, it became Goode Plumbing and Heating until he retired in 2007. For many years, Jerry was a devoted leader in Boy Scout Troop 149 and the First Christian Church Cub Scout Pack. He belonged to Kiwanis and American Legion.

Jerry enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He loved to dance and play cards. Jerry was a member of the Disciples of Christ Church in Chariton.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Betty; sons: Danny Krutsinger of Lacona, Iowa, and Gordon Krutsinger of Chariton, Iowa; six grandchildren: Christine Holder, Kenneth (Renate) Krutsinger, Kimberly (David) Kolnes, Jonathan Krutsinger, Melissa (Sean) Maguire, and Jared Krutsinger; and eight great grandchildren: Holly Schumann, Tyler Schumann, Sarah Kolnes, Joshua Kolnes, Charlotte Maguire, Nora Krutsinger, Vivian Maguire, and Madeline Krutsinger. Along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Jerry passed away September 14, 2018 at the age of 83 years.
