John F. Bstandig, 75, of Beatrice died at a Lincoln hospital on Friday morning, March 8, 2019. He was born December 5, 1943 at Sioux City, IA, graduated from Steinauer High School and Peru State College. He married Betty Marie Menninga on January 29, 1983.

He taught at St. Anthony’s Catholic School in Steinauer several years and then worked as a mental retardation professional at the Beatrice State Developmental Center. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Homestead Early Risers Kiwanis Club and Blue River Regulators. He enjoyed the “lunch bunch”, reading, doing leather work, playing guitar and piano, traveling and his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Bstandig of Beatrice; three children, Aaron Bstandig of Beatrice, Tiona Bstandig of Beatrice and Katrina Bstandig of Lincoln; seven grandchildren, Kyleah, Brison, Tracen, Rodney, Vayda, Daemond and Donavon; two sisters, Rita (Lonnie) Allen of Wymore and Elaine Lytle of Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Dorothy Bstandig of Burchard; three brothers-in-law, Larry (Ann) Menninga of Alaska, Leroy (Barb) Menninga of Wichita and Steve Lytle of Beatrice; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Esther Kalin Bstandig; one sister, Helen Lytle; one brother, Larry Bstandig; parents-in-law, Albert and Maxine Vaughn Menninga; sister-in-law, Bonita (Wayne) Johnson. Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Beatrice with Father Robert Barnhill, Celebrant.

Inurnment of the cremains will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery of Beatrice. A Scriptural Rosary Service will be held at 6:30 P.M. on Tuesday at the Fox Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place and there will be no viewing.

A register book will be available at Fox Funeral Home from 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday and at the church one hour preceding the services on Wednesday. A memorial has been established to the family’s choice. www.
