Mr. John F. Ross, Jr., 75, of Ozark, died Wednesday, May 23, 2018, in Flowers Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Deacon Ross 10:00 A.M. Saturday, May 26, 2018, in St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Ozark with Reverend Frederick G. Boni officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Memorial Cemetery with full Military Honors, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Friday from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P. M. Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Cadden, Alan Horst, Danny Bishop, Nick Rogers, Justin Johnson, and Mark Johnson. Deacon Ross was born July 28, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late John F. Ross, Sr. and Elizabeth Marie Brockmeyer Ross. After high school, he joined the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran, retiring at Fort Rucker following twenty years of service.
Following his military service, Deacon Ross worked with Civil Service at Fort Rucker and retired after twenty years of service. He was a very active member and Deacon of St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Ozark. He also was active in the Prison Ministry, Diversion Center, and Boys Home.
Deacon Ross was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather to all of his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Nancy Jane Ross Hamlett; one brother, William Martin Ross, and one niece, Caitlin Cadden.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Holloway Ross; five children, Paula Ross, Tammy Ross Stinson (Wayne), John F. Ross III (Tonya), Mikell Ross Bishop (Danny), Patrick M. Ross; grandchildren, Beth Stinson Draper (Ace), Brittney Stinson, Kirstie Ross Johnson (Justin), John F. Ross IV (Kristy), Erica Ross Johnson (Mark), Savannah Ross, Selena Ross, Madison Bishop Rogers (Nick), Katelyn Bishop, Sydney Bishop, Jeremy Swanson, Sarah McElroy (John); great grandchildren, Chloe Draper, Stinson Draper, Natalie Draper, Bailey Johnson, Molly Rogers, Tommy Johnson all of Ozark; six sisters, Betty Ross Sloan (Dave) of Ellicott, Maryland, Lisa Ross Horst (Alan), of Baltimore, Maryland, Kathleen Ross (Ron Pennington) of Baltimore, Maryland, Donna Ross King (Terry) of Joppa, Maryland, Joan Marchsteiner of Rosedale, Maryland, Dorothy Ross Cadden (Mike) of Glen Rock, Pennsylvania; one brother, James John Ross of Perryville, Maryland. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church, P. O. Box 1008, Ozark, Alabama 36361.
