Obituary for John J. “Jack” Dunderdale, III John J. “Jack” Dunderdale, III, of Taunton, passed away peacefully with his wife and children by his side on Monday, November 5, 2018, after battling both Alzheimer’s and ALS. Jack was the loving husband of forty-nine years to Joanne (DiPaolo) Dunderdale. Born in Boston on June 10, 1944, the loving son of the late Rosalina “Rose” (Iannuzzi) Dunderdale, Jack was raised and educated in Dorchester.
A veteran of the US Marine Corps, he served in the Philippines during the Vietnam War making the rank as Lance Corporal and was also an expert sharp shooter. He was honorably discharged. For many years Jack was employed as an iron worker for the Village Forge, in Hyde Park, retiring in 1997, he then became a self-employed painter for many years.
Jack was an avid sports fan, both playing and coaching, Baseball, Hockey, and Track. As a younger man he was an avid runner who ran numerous road races. He was an NY Jets fan.
He served as the former President of the Taunton Football Gird Iron Club. Jack was a well-respected coach for many years with the East Taunton Little League, a position which he loved and helped countless kids in understanding the game. Jack was a member of the Taunton DAV and would often volunteer his time with helping other veterans at the Brockton VA.
Jack always put his family first and enjoyed the precious time he spent with them. A man with a great sense of humor, he always enjoyed a good laugh as well giving one. He will truly by missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife Joanne, he is survived by his four children, John J. Dunderdale, IV and his fiancé Danielle Dumas–Austin, Marc T. Dunderdale and his wife Mary; Kristen E. Dunderdale and her companion Jason Graca and Paul J. Dunderdale and his wife Shannon all of Taunton. Beloved Papa to, Maxwell, Ella, Lola, Jackson, Reilly, Zoey and Blake Dunderdale; A sister, Louise Walklett of CA. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and was the brother of the late Rosemarie Flynn and Paul Dunderdale.
A Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, Taunton, on Saturday, November 10th, 2018, at 10 am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial to follow at St. Francis Cemetery on North Walker St., Taunton.
Calling hours will be held at the Crapo – Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave. (Rt. 138), Taunton.
on Friday, November 9th. 2018, from 4 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack’s memory may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN.
