John “Jack” Stevens Leake of Siletz, Oregon was born to John P. and Grace Leake on June 1st, 1930 in Dupree, South Dakota. Jack joined the Army in 1951 and honorably served our Country. On June 16th, 1951 Jack married the love of his life, Frances (O’Connor) Leake.

They were married for 66 years and had 3 children, Steve, John and Lori. Jack worked for Union Pacific Railroad for a short time, prior to joining the Army. Once out of the Army he worked for several businesses before starting several of his own.

Jack owned and operated numerous businesses, such as: Construction, “Honeybucket’s”, vending machines and a retail furniture store, before starting his most recent endeavor 30+ years ago, Seagull Harbor (aka Seagull Haven). Jack and Frances hand crafted ceramic and concrete seagulls and sold them in his retail stores, along with “whirly-gigs”, statuaries and bird baths. He had stores in Aberdeen Washington, Seaside and Depoe Bay, Oregon.

People from all over the world own seagulls that Jack made. Jack also loved fishing; he wanted a dory boat and after a trip to Pacific City he bought himself a bright orange Dory boat. Jack also loved hunting and he made many memories with long time hunting buddy, Lee Bishop, while on their many hunting trips in Monument Oregon.

He was a lover of all card games and one heck of a bluffer. Jack and Frances enjoyed the hot weather and being “snowbirds” who traveled to Quartzsite Arizona each winter. They would tell you it was for the flea market, but in reality, it was for the love of the heat.

Jack is survived by his wife Frances, daughter Lori (Will) Smith, also of Siletz and daughter in law Becky (Steve) Leake of Newport. Jack was preceded in death by son’s Steve and John. Jack has 4 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 1 great, great grandchild and a very large extended family.

Jack will be buried next to his son John, at Willamette National cemetery on Monday April 30th, 2018 at 12:00 pm. The public is invited to this graveside service.
