John L. Holler aged 89 years went to be with his Lord on January 19, 2019 surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on September 5, 1929 to Lawrence H.and Lillie Beaver Holler in Shiloh Township, North Carolina. He served proudly in the United States Army in Korea during the Korean War.

He lived in Hollywood, California after the war, working at I. Magnin Department Store. He moved from there back to North Carolina to be with his ailing mother until her death. From there he moved to Dallas, Texas and worked for United Waste, a clothing recycling company until his retirement.

Upon his brother Pete’s death, he moved back to North Carolina. He stayed there until he moved back to Memphis, Tennessee to be with his long time friend, Rod Blackhurst. John and I were close friends for thirty-seven years.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Lawrence, Jr., Paul (Pete),Benny (Humpy), his sisters Rachel, Ruth Robinson, and Mabel Stewart, his nephew Jack Jolly and Jack’s wife, Bea. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. As per John’s wishes, he will be cremated and his ashes will be inurned at his family’s plot at St. Michaels Cemetery in Troutman, North Carolina.
