Obituary for John Marshal Peacock John Marshal Peacock, age 69, died Monday, July 23, 2018 at his residence. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 26 in the DCHS gymnasium. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6 til 8 p.m. at the funeral home. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sue Bryan Peacock, with whom they shared a wonderful life together since they first started going steady on May 15, 1966. His daughters are Jennifer Peacock and Lori Williams (Chuck) of Eastman.

His grandchildren, the light of his heart, are Brice, Drew, Kade, John Pate, Chelsey, Logan, and Caylee. Two god-children are Macy E. Young and James Ethredge. He is the son of the late Massie and Julia Peacock.

He was born in Eastman and lived most of his life there. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Coach Peacock was the head football coach at Ocmulgee Academy for one year, Pineland School in Moultrie for four years, Montgomery County for twelve years, Dodge County for ten years and athletic director at Dodge County for thirteen years.

During his 27 years as a head football coach, he won 185 games, 8 region championships and still has the most wins at three different schools. He won region championships at three different schools in three decades of 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. He was named Region Coach of the Year seven times and Athletic Director of the Year twice.

He served as Georgia Athletic Coaches Association Regional Directory for eight years, State Football Chairman for two years and on the Hall of Fame Committee for three years. He served as a GHSA Regional Directors’ Board for two years. He also served as chairman of the Eastman/Dodge County Recreation Department for eight years and was chairman when the present recreation field was built.

He ran the recreation department in Mt Vernon (Montgomery County) for twelve years. He was a lifelong University of Alabama Crimson Tide fan. The Dodge County high school football field is now named Coach John M. Peacock Field in memory of him.

He taught at Eastman YDC for seven years. He lettered in football, basketball, and baseball at DCHS and played baseball at Middle Georgia State University in Cochran, and Georgia Southwestern University in Americus. He was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and was the first president of the Alumni Association at Georgia Southwestern.

His grandson, Brice is now a legacy Kappa Sigma. Coach Peacock loved all sports but loved his family even more. He loved all kids and adored his seven grandchildren and two god-children.

He was lovingly called Peapa, Daddy, Husband, Coach, and a friend to many. The rank of priorities he stressed to all athletes was: 1-God, 2-family, 3-education, 4-friends, and 5-sports. He continued to live out his motto: All It Takes is All We Got!
