Obituary for John Meehan John William Meehan, 92 of Abilene passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene. He was born July 25, 1926 on a farm near Niles, Kansas the son of Edward Michael and Alice Marie (Humpert) Meehan. John attended grade schools in the Niles, Solomon, and Manchester areas and Abilene High School for three years.
He joined the United States Army in 1946 serving 18 months as a surgical technician in an amputee hospital at Fort Custer Michigan. On August 14, 1948 he was united in marriage to his wife of over seventy years, Maxine Darlene Greenough in Cheyenne, Wyoming. John and Maxine farmed in the Carpenter, Wyoming area for five years then returned to Abilene where John worked as a house painter, a carpet installer, and as the custodian for the Dickinson County courthouse.
John is survived by his loving wife Maxine. Two sons, Michael (Linda) and Jack (Marilyn), both of Abilene, four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Leo and Lynn.
Funeral Services for John will be at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, November 1, 2018 at the Abilene First Christian Church with Pastor Jason Kohler officiating. Burial will follow at the Prairiedale Cemetery North of Talmage. Visitation will be from 1:30 P.M., Thursday until service time at the church.
The family suggests memorials be given to the Abilene First Christian Church Care Fund. Memorials may be dropped off or mailed to Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW Third St., Abilene, Kansas 67410 or left at the Church the day of the service.
