HOLYOKE It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John M. Sugrue III on Christmas Day 2018. Born in Holyoke on January 28, 1948 he was the son of John and Mary Sugrue. John was a 1966 graduate of Holyoke High School and attended Holyoke Junior College and Westfield State College.

He developed a career as a land surveyor and worked for many years in the private sector for survey firms including Shurman & Pharmer. He was the best crew chief for miles around, having developed skills at the drafting board as well as in the field. He worked for many years for the City of Holyoke Engineering Department.

John was a heartfelt man, loving and caring…. gentle in nature…full of wisdom, both practical and profound. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 47 years, Connie Sugrue, daughters, Sarah Kohn and her husband Aaron and Alyssa Sugrue, two beloved grandchildren, Theo and Brandon Kohn, his dear family: sister, Mary Delphia; brothers, Steve Sugrue and Joe Sugrue of Tacoma, WA and brother-in-law, Steve Clarke and wife Donna, also his great friend Bob Moynihan of MD.

Rest peacefully John for you are loved. Relatives and friends are invited to meet at Our Lady of the Cross Parish Church, Holy Cross Avenue, Holyoke, to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial for John at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2019. Calling hours will be held Friday, March 8th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke.
