Obituary for John Balog, Jr. John Balog, Jr., 93, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away Tuesday evening, October 30, 2018 at the Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne. John was born December 13, 1924 in Rock Springs, Wyoming, a son of the late John J. and Anna (Bara) Balog. John served in the United States Army during World War II as a Staff Sergeant.

Following his honorable discharge, he worked for the Wyoming Highway Department as a surveyor and project engineer in Rock Springs, Kemmerer and ultimately Cheyenne, retiring in the mid-1970s. He then joined the Wyoming State Engineer’s office as a Safety of Dams Inspector, retiring in 1987. He enjoyed home and travel with his wife, Ida (Menghini) Balog until her death in 2002.

His other interests included watching football, supporting the Wyoming Cowboys as a booster, and spending time with family and friends. John is survived by his daughter, Jeanne Balog of Seattle, WA; a sister, Irene Levar of Loveland, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Ida Balog; brothers, Steve and George Balog; and brothers-in-law, Leno and August Menghini.

A Vigil for the Deceased and Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated in Cheyenne in the spring with interment to follow in Rock Springs.
