John Dennis Gibson, of Drexel Hill, Pa. , formerly of Philadelphia, Pa. , passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 1, 2019.

He was born March 25, 1958 in Philadelphia, PA; he was 60 years old. He is survived by wife of 37 years, Deborah, of Drexel Hill, PA. , son Steven of Miami, FL, son Jeffrey of Drexel Hill, PA, mother Margaret Gibson (nee Manning) of Millsboro, DE, four brothers, Charles Gibson (Francine) of Elverson, PA, Matthew Gibson (Sandy) of Centerville, MD, Joseph Gibson (Patty) of Chadds Ford, PA, Mark Gibson (Mary) of Collegeville, PA, and sister Mary Snead (William) of Harbeson, DE, sister in law Donna Kennedy of Havertown, PA and nine nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Charles Gibson of Millsboro, DE. John was a 1976 graduate of Upper Darby High School. He will be remembered for his love of baseball, beginning in early childhood.

He was inducted into the Little League Hall of Fame in 1975 for a historic game in 1970 (coincidentally which occurred on his future wife’s 12th birthday) in which he pitched a no-hitter, against the opposing team which pitched a one-hitter (John’s). He was a great athlete and participated in many other sports, often in competition with his brothers. In addition, he loved music, reading, history and was passionate about shooting pool with his sons, brothers, brother in law, father in law and other family and friends over many years.

John worked for Acme Markets for 42 years until his retirement in 2017. Relatives and friends are invited for visitation on Friday, March 8, 2019 beginning at 10:30 AM at Stretch Funeral Home, (236 East Eagle Rd. , Havertown, PA 19083) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 12:00 PM at St. Denis Catholic Church, Havertown, PA.

Interment will follow at St. Denis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local Little League chapter (www. littleleague.org/play-little-league/league-finder/) or a charity of your choice.
